Engagement Stories

"We were going ice skating and I noticed that he was acting kind of funny. He was always shy and quiet, but this night he was even quieter. I was afraid that he was going to break up with me. After skating we went to my house and were sitting in his families car in my families driveway. He said, "so what do you have planned for the rest of your life?" I didn't know what to say. He said "Do you think you'd want to marry me?" I answered, "You'll have to ask Daddy." The next morning, I was sitting in front of the TV eating cereal when my mother comes in and says, "he asked you to marry him last night, didn't he?" Now how she knew, I'll never know. I guess it's that Mother's intuition. But I answered that yes he had. She said, "what did you say?" I said, "He'd have to ask Daddy".

That night right after Dinner, my mother made my 16 year old brother go to bed at 7:30 and she retired herself so that my Danny and Daddy could talk. Dan insisted that I sit on the couch with him, my Dad in the Lazy Boy. We sat in silence until 12:30 and my dad kept nodding off and said that he had to go to bed. The next night, a replay of the night before with my dad falling asleep in the chair around midnight and waking himself with a snore and going to bed with Dan and I still on the couch-silent. The third night, my father started nodding off about 10:30 (he was usually in bed by 9:30) he shook himself awake and said to Dan, "so I understand you want to marry my daughter?' Dan replied "yes sir" and the rest is history. I wonder if my dad might have had more to say had he not been so exhausted. Those shy ones are slick, if you can't win the argument, win the wait." - Tammi Ketterman

"My boyfriend had made reservations at the restaurant, McCormick & Schmidt, for us to have a lovely dinner. There, we enjoyed delicious food, expensive wine, and the simple joy of being with each other. The evening then took us on a memorable walk through the Reston Town Center. There, we passed through the christmas decorated stores and the bundled children skating around the ice rink. My Boyfriend guided me to the very well known Christmas Tree that sits in the center of the Town center. It stands about 100 feet tall and can be seen from miles away (okay I may be exaggerating that part). As we sat at the foot of the tree, hand in hand, he tried to warm me from the bitter cold. He held me close and hugged me tight.  He then let me go and backed away, looking deep into my eyes saying nothing. Then he let go of my hand, slowing repositioning himself down on one knee in front of me. His romantic words that he spoke threw me into shock, with no response to his "Will You Marry Me". That is until he said " so is that a Yes":) YES!! I responded.  The look and love in his eyes on that night I will remember Forever. I consider myself the luckiest woman in the world for Marrying the man of my Dreams. Its been about 2 years now and we are expecting our first Baby Boy! I can't wait for the Rest of ours lives together!"

"We were on our way to pick-up a friend for dinner when he said he forgot his wallet.  After about five minutes he came out of the house and walked to my side of the car.  He asked if I would come inside for a few minutes.  There in the light of the Christmas tree, he got down on his knee.  I can't remember what he said, who ever does?  We immediately started calling family and friends and then sat down to a lovely dinner that was waiting for us in the kitchen.  A few minutes into dinner I asked about the friend we were supposed to meet.  No dinner plans had actually been made, at least not for our friend..."
